Dear Howley families,

Time seems to be flying at the moment. There are signs that Spring is upon us with daffodils appearing and the ducks settling back on our pond – all we need now is a little more sunshine and a lot less rain!

As you know, just before half term, we held our Parents’ Evenings. It was great to see so many of our families in school looking through the super work our children have completed and spending time talking with class teachers. Thank you to the many of you who were able to attend. The smiles and pride on our children’s and families’ faces as they leave after their appointment is always a joy to see.

World Book Day was a super day where we came together to share our love of stories and reading. The array of costumes was simply brilliant - thank you for helping us to promote the joy of books.

I must also thank those of you who were able to join us for the Reception, Year One and Two Mother’s Day celebrations this week. There is nothing better than being able to welcome our community into school to share these special times.

With our Easter break just around the corner, we have more upcoming celebrations including our Easter Singalong for Reception, Years One and Two (bonnets are a must)! We also have our traditional ‘decorate an egg’ competition for Years Three, Four, Five and Six which I will definitely not be judging as that tends to be one of the most difficult decisions of the year!

In the meantime, I thank our staff team, families, and of course our brilliant children, for all their hard work and support and wish everyone in our school community a very happy weekend.

Miss Lewis

Bookdrop

The latest edition of Bookdrop can be found here:

Bookdrop March/April 2026

This issue has lots of information about new and upcoming books along with interviews with favourite children’s authors to share with your child.

Cushions and blankets

As the weather becomes warmer, the children will have the opportunity to read books at lunchtimes.  If you have any unwanted cushions, seat pads or blankets that we could use outside to sit on, please could you drop them off at the school office.

This week, we were delighted to welcome an RNLI volunteer into school to deliver important water safety workshops for Year 2 and Year 6. The sessions helped pupils understand how to stay safe near water, recognise potential dangers, and know what to do in an emergency. With the Easter holidays approaching – and many families planning visits to the coast – this learning is especially valuable. We encourage parents and carers to explore beach safety advice together at home.

Active Black Country, in partnership with the councils for Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton, is carrying out a survey to find out what stops local people from moving more, being active and playing sport.

The charity wants to hear from local people to understand how it can help to break down barriers and create more physical activity opportunities across the Black Country.

By completing the short survey, you will be entered into a prize draw, with the chance to win one of 10 x £25 prizes including Amazon, supermarket, and energy vouchers.
